When you live on the shore it’s easy to go coastal crazy with your design scheme. It’s certainly appropriate to bring some beachy elements into your home. You don’t need to cover every surface of your home with shells just because the ocean is close. So put down the lighthouse and follow these tips to modernize your beach kitchen.
Bold Appliances

Today’s refrigerators represent an exponential improvement over yesteryear’s clunkers. Appliances like wall ovens, breakfront sinks and cappuccino makers make impressive statements, and don’t even require an Outer Banks renovation! Even everyday amenities like coffee pots and microwaves now come in modern, stainless steal models and can be added to any kitchen as a perfect update. Exciting pops like colored tea kettles or utensils can also keep the boldness alive.
A Classier Shore

Make purposeful choices with your beach bounty. Instead of having anchors (I LOVE anchors) through the house, choose one wall and hang your entire collection. Use more sophisticated elements of the beach like raffia or sea glass. This kitchen has a light color scheme, the word “sea” in beautiful wooden letters and some whicker baskets tucked under the counter. These simpler elements communicate shore life without yelling, “Hey! You’re near a beach!”
Fresh Flooring
The Kitchen can quickly become the busiest room in the house. Even a clean family can end-up with a dingy floor. Replacing it with something fresh will quickly make a drastic update. I would suggest earth tones, because these hide stains and dirt the best. Keeping the beach in mind, sandy tones are optimal. Whether you pick hardwood, tile or linoleum in your kitchen a shore house has enough sand and surf that you may want to consider a hard surface through out your home. There are plenty of hard wood flooring options on the Outer Banks and Outer Banks Master Builders can surly help you out!
The kitchen is the gathering area of the home. So you will never run out of opportunities to show off your new, modern and seaside space.
